Finishing Strong Doesn’t Mean Stretched Thin
Every fall, I start to notice a familiar rhythm among the leaders I coach… the rush. The year-end deadlines, the performance reviews, the closing projects, the “let’s squeeze in one more thing before the holidays.”
And I get it.
We’ve been conditioned to believe that finishing strong means doing more and pushing harder, saying yes a little too often, and running on empty because “it’s just for a few more weeks.”
But here’s what I’ve seen again and again in my own leadership journey and through the women I coach:
Strong doesn’t mean stretched thin.
Redefining What “Strong” Really Looks Like
Strength isn’t about endurance alone. It’s about discernment, knowing what truly matters in this season and what can wait.
One of my coaching clients recently told me, “I feel like I’m sprinting through the finish line of the year with nothing left to give.”
Together, we paused. We looked at everything on her plate and then started removing what didn’t align with her priorities.
By the end of that conversation, she wasn’t doing more.
She was doing what mattered most.
That’s strength.
It isn’t about finishing the year with speed. It’s about finishing with self-awareness.
So before you push harder, pause longer.
Before you add something new, consider what you can let go of.
And as you close the year, give yourself permission to finish well… not just busy.
Because the best leaders don’t burn out trying to do it all.
They build capacity for what’s next by creating space today.
If you’re ready to close out this year with focus and start the next one with clarity, I’d love to walk alongside you. Through 1:1 leadership coaching or the New Sage Women’s Network, we’ll uncover what’s next and help you lead with purpose, not pressure.
